LG 55-inch QNED83

With so many options and features to choose from, there’s no shortage of possibilities for those seeking a TV under Rs 1,00,000. Rs 1,00,000 is the sweet spot for excellent features and performance, including native 120Hz panel support for all HDMI 2.1 features and local dimming. Although OLED TVs under Rs 1 lakh have been seen, the LG A2 is one example of one that lacks HDMI 2.1 capability, which would be a deal breaker for gamers. Currently available is the 55-inch LED-backlit LG QNED83 TV. The TV’s acronym, QNED, is for Quantum Dot and NanoCell Combined, which results in remarkably outstanding picture quality.

Rating: 8.5/10

Image quality and display panel

As previously stated, the LG QNED83 uses NanoCell and Quantum Dot underneath the panel to provide bright screen images. Excellent viewing angles are provided by the IPS panel itself. The best black levels have not always been a feature of IPS panels, but we will address it in later areas of this study. Although we are reviewing the 55-inch model, there is a 65-inch version of the TV available. The TV has an MOP (Market Operating Price) of around Rs 94,990 as of the time this review was written. All widely used HDR picture formats, such as HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and HLG, are supported with the TV. Even though it is an edge-lit panel, local dimming is supported to guarantee reduced blooming when you have a mixture of bright

Performance in 4K and HDR

The quick answer is that the TV performs well. We played a ton of content from streaming sources in Dolby Vision and HDR 10. We watched Top Gun Maverick on Netflix, which is available in Dolby Vision. Because of the TV’s extreme brightness, we could see the sun’s glare when the pilots faced the sky. The content looked excellent, even in a film like Rebel Moon, which has a significantly darker color scheme. On television, even animated shows with a naturally “cool” tone, like Blue Eye Samurai, appeared colorful and bright.

The LG QNED83’s greatest benefit is that it performs admirably in bright spaces. Therefore, this is a fantastic TV to consider if you want to have a light on when watching movies or have a room with ambient light during the day that cannot be filtered out. It can handle reflections well and get fairly bright.

The drawback of dark HDR content is a slight loss of detail. For instance, there was some detail loss in Batman’s outfit during the scene where he kidnaps Lao from Hong King in The Dark Knight. Compared to the QNED83, the webbing and chink of Batman’s armor were far more noticeable on my LG G2.

Additionally, the TV features a feature called Filmmaker Mode that, when used, will automatically recognize content and portray it how the director intended. However, I discovered that the best method to watch HDR movies was to turn this off, use the Cinema preset, and turn off all sorts of motion smoothing.

SDR performance

About Filmmaker Mode, is activated during my consumption of SDR content. One excellent illustration of this is Young Sheldon on Prime Video. The content appeared somewhat subdued when Filmmaker Mode was enabled, but this is a good thing. But when the preset was changed to standard and Filmmaker Mode was turned off, the content appeared more colorful. Although I think the vivid mode oversaturates the colors, other people like this effect.

The experience of watching movies in SDR on streaming platforms was excellent. The Netflix series Spider-Man Homecoming looked amazing on television. Spider-Man’s suit’s red and blue elements stood out and had the perfect balance. His suit’s black webbing was also easily visible, something that other TVs are unable to accurately depict. You won’t be dissatisfied if you watch the video in SDR via streaming providers or your set-top box.

Performance in Games

When it comes to gaming, the TV has four HDMI connections, two of which can support HDMI 2.1, which has all the bells and whistles, like VRR, ALLM, and 4K at 120Hz. There is only one HDMI 2.1 connection available for connecting an HDMI 2.1 device, such as an Apple TV 4K, PS5, Xbox Series X, or a laptop or desktop with an NVIDIA 40 series GPU. The other port is designated for eARC in case you want to connect a speaker. Although the Sony X90L likewise has only two HDMI 2.1 connections, I still wish the TV had four like LG’s OLED C and G series sisters.

Speaking of games, we played a ton of them, ranging from Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man 2, and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart on the PS5 to Doom Eternal and Gears 5 on the Series X. The TV game experience was excellent.

The HGiG (HDR Gaming Interest Group) game Dirt 5 demonstrated the ideal brightness without burning, something that other TVs have had trouble with after calibration. This implies that HDR games look great on this TV.

Another game with vibrant colors and an immersive experience is Spider-Man 2. In terms of input latency, Doom Eternal, which performed at a silky smooth 120FPS on the Series X, was the ideal experience.

Sound Recording

Although the TV’s gaming performance is excellent, the audio quality could have been better. The heart-pounding electric background score in Doom Eternal sounds fantastic coming from the TV’s speakers, but you’re a little let down by the speakers’ lack of bass when you squeeze the trigger of your shotgun.

This also applies to cinematic works. Overall, watching movies on TV is enjoyable because the speech is clear and the background music is audible; the only thing the TV lacks is heart-pounding bass. The speakers are good for consuming content daily. When you use the AI sound mode, your sound settings automatically adjust based on the material you consume, saving you the trouble of fiddling with them. Although the TV may grow loud and fill the room, it does not support Dolby Atmos, so don’t expect the sound to emanate from behind or above you.

UI

When compared to competitors, LG’s smart TV user interface is among the best. It comes with a magic remote that functions exactly like a computer mouse, simplifying navigation. Additionally, the UI is fluid and fast. The screen is filled with content recommendations, but the row of streaming apps that you will use the most is in the center of the screen.

The settings menu on the TV is my favorite feature. All of the key settings will appear on the left side of the TV when you press the settings button on the remote control. this covers the panel brightness, sound output, game optimizer, picture and sound settings, and more. Not only is it really easy to use, but adjusting the settings also displays a real-time change in the balance of the top two-thirds of the screen, which is quite useful for adjusting the picture.

LG 55-inch QNED83: Available Connectivity

The TV has four HDMI connections, two of which support HDMI 2.1, as I mentioned earlier. When the TV is wall-mounted, all of the connectivity options are easily accessible because they are oriented to the side. All of them are down-facing, except the LAN and optical ports. The following is a list of connectivity choices.

Two HDMI 2.1 ports
Two HDMI 2.0 ports

eARC: In agreement (HDMI 3)
One LAN port, one optical port, one Wi-Fi-enabled port, and five Bluetooth-enabled ports (5.0)
Ethernet port: 1 Combo Jack RF input: 1
USB 2.0 ports: two

LG 55-inch QNED83: Remote Management

LG 55-inch QNED83 model comes with the same magical remote control as LG’s top OLEDs. Its gently curved shape makes it comfortable to grasp and manipulate with the cursor like a magic wand. You receive specific shortcuts for Netflix and Prime Video, two streaming services. The navigation wheel has a nice click that makes sure you aren’t touching it by mistake. It is also slightly deep. The only thing I can think of is that I wish LG’s prior generation remote control had included specific playback controls.

LG 55-inch QNED83: Build and design

Because there are hardly any bezels on any side of the LG QNED83, viewing it is incredibly immersive. The feet of the TV are what stand out, however the back seems like high-end material. They easily keep the TV in position and are made of metal with an upscale look. The holes for the normal Vesa wall mount are also located on the back, and as was already said, all of the ports are oriented so that even with the TV wall mounted, accessing them is simple. Overall, nothing to be unhappy with.

Verdict

When you consider the features available, the LG QNED83 is an excellent TV for the price. All common formats are supported, including Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HLG, and HDR 10. Even though only two of the four ports support HDMI 2.1, this TV is excellent for gaming because it also supports the video game standard. The TV‘s picture quality is excellent in SDR and very good in HDR, however, there is some information loss in the darker scenes. In a well-lit space, watching content on the TV is fantastic. There is a small amount of blooming around the subtitles in a dark environment, but given the package, it’s easily ignored.
