Tecno POVA 6 Pro

I reviewed the Tecno POVA 5 Pro in August last year and found it to be a quality smartphone that brings with it some of the most desired features in the mid to very-affordable price range. With its high-quality screen, fast charging support, and unique design, the phone is offered for sale at an attractive price of under 15,000 Euros.

Instead of waiting a year, the brand has now launched Tecno POVA 6 Pro in March. But does the impressive deliver the credentials needed to build on its predecessor, or does it fail to deliver the same value for money? Considering that the new phone is currently priced at Rs 19,999 (a special discount of Rs 2,000 is available at launch), one might also wonder whether the high price is justified. I’m here to answer all these questions with more information over the phone, so without wasting any time, let’s get straight to the point.

 Rating: 7.5 / 10

Verdict

With notable improvements over its predecessor, the Tecno POVA 6 Pro excels in areas like its vivid display, lengthy battery life, quick charging time, and practical software features. An ultra-wide sensor is one of the main features lacking from the phone, as it was on its predecessor as well. The smartphone is a wonderful deal at its introductory price of Rs 17,999, but at Rs 19,999, its full price, it does require more consideration.

Design and display

  • Tecno POVA 6 Pro builds on the design of POVA 5 Pro and continues to evolve.
  • In addition to the LED strips found in previous models, POVA 6 Pro also provides useful lighting in the ring around the camera.
  • Although we bought the Comet Green version of the Phone, the Meteorite option will also be available. Comet Green color is the more visible of the two, but the black option can also be preferred for those who want a more refined look.
  • During the updated Arc, effects are now offered which gives more options and I don’t think this is a clue, this was also the case with POVA 5 Pro. With ‘Party Mode‘ you can leave the light on for as long as you want.
  • The phone is 7.9 mm thick and weighs 195 grams. Although its weight is high, the phone does not feel heavy in the hand. POVA 6 Pro has a touch box, but I found it comfortable to use with one hand. This is pretty impressive considering it’s the lightest phone on the market with a 6,000mAh battery.

Cameras

  • The Tecno POVA 6 Pro has three cameras on its back, the most prominent of which is a 108MP primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture. A secondary AI sensor and a 2MP Portrait sensor support the primary camera. The phone has a 10x and a 3x in-sensor zoom.
  • The phone has the same camera modes as the brand’s earlier versions. This implies that you have the following features: Documents, AR Shot, Super Night, Dual Video, AR Line, Pro mode, Panorama, and slow motion.
  • One concern I had with the quality of the images was the amount of detail in the Super Night mode shots toward the edges. In these pictures, the items at the edges weren’t as sharp.
  • It was not surprising that the 32MP AI selfie camera on the phone, which has an f/2.2 aperture and support for a dual-tone flash, produced detailed selfies. Moreover, the front camera does a great job of capturing various skin tones.

To have a more accurate understanding of the camera’s capabilities, we contrasted the camera samples captured using the Tecno POVA 6 Pro with the Vivo T3. We discovered that the camera samples taken with the latter had better color accuracy and also had a more realistic-looking background blur.

Performance and software

  • Tecno POVA 6 Pro is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 6080 5G chipset and 12GB RAM. The MemFusion feature expands RAM up to 12GB by converting storage to standard RAM when needed.
  • ‘s gaming platform allows you to personalize your gaming experience and offers features such as smart hardware and networking enhancements to ensure your gaming experience is at its best. You can choose to switch to performance mode to get the most out of your device.
  • There is no lag problem while playing games such as Battlegrounds Mobile India and Racing Real 3. However, the phone cannot play BGMI in HDR or high-resolution mode, which is a bit unusual at this price point. The 120 Hz refresh rate ensures that your gaming experience is smooth and the touch response is also good.
  • Depending on your present situation, the phone’s interface offers you real-time reminders for things like payments and sleep routines. With just two fingers, you can use Smart Touch to extract text from pages and pictures by long-pressing the screen.
  • Smart Hub offers temporary storage for text, photos, files, and other media, giving you a productive way to move content between apps. You can use several accounts for an app with the App Twin functionality.
  • Here, you also receive the standard HiOS features, such as Floating Windows, Smart Panel, Game Mode, and Kids mode.

Battery life and Charging speed

  • In the PCMark battery test, the large 6,000mAh battery that powers the Tecno POVA 6 Pro lasted an amazing 15 hours and 56 minutes.
  • The phone may easily last two days with light use. It may effortlessly last longer than a day, even if you use it frequently.
  • You may set aside your worries if you’re worried that charging a device with such a massive battery would be difficult because it supports 70W fast charging. It took me about sixty minutes to charge from zero to one hundred.

Final Verdict

Even with noticeable improvements in the display, battery life, and dynamic lighting in the back, the POVA 6 Pro still lacks an ultra-wide camera. Additionally, the processors on the other phones in this price range are more powerful. Although I did not experience any significant problems with the phone’s performance, I would have felt more confident about using it in the long run if it had a more potent processor. When the phone’s price drops to Rs 19,999, it will no longer be a terrific value, even at its current initial retail price of Rs 17,999. Consider models like the Vivo T3, Narzo 70 Pro, and iQOO Z9 if performance is what you’re after.
