Robert Downley Jr. portrays multiple characters, which contributes to the show’s meta-plot and oddball quality, making the whole thing stand out on its own. Nevertheless, Downey Jr. only plays a minor role in the whole, and his characters serve more as the story‘s symbolic messengers than as true heroes.
The show’s breakout actor is Hoa Xuande, who we first saw in the controversial Cowboy Bebop Netflix series a few years ago. Xuande plays the lead here, and he not only has the acting chops to carry the entire show on his shoulders, but he also manages to steal the show in every episode. The actor is fortunate to have such a nuanced role to play because it provides the ideal platform for him to showcase all of his acting skills, and it’s practically a given that his involvement will lead to more opportunities down the road.

One of the best directors working today, The Sympathizer, is a masterclass in skill. Park Chan-wook likes spy shows; his previous TV project, The Little Drummer Girl, was likewise in this genre. The Sympathizer, on the other hand, has a quirkier vibe to it without sacrificing the depth of its historical setting or the subtle moral struggle that exists inside the main characters. While it may not be the most popular program on the air, anyone who gives it a chance will undoubtedly love it.
