Rating: 8 / 10

Realme 12 Pro Review Verdict

The Realme 12 Pro is undoubtedly the best-designed phone in its price range because it does so many things well. The phone’s telephoto lens allows you to take stunning pictures, and it matches competitors in terms of display quality and charging speed. However, the POCO X6 5G, which has a superior chipset, poses a serious threat if performance is your top priority.

Design and display

It is impossible to imagine the Realme 12 Pro being your typical mid-range smartphone given its style. Building on the success of the Realme 11 Pro, this phone boasts an eye-catching “Luxury Watch Design,” created in association with international luxury watch designer Ollivier SavĂ©o. The Submarine Blue color option that we were given has an exquisite appearance from every angle and is distinguished by a golden fluted bezel surrounding the camera configuration. Comparing the phone to phones with plastic or glass back panels, the vegan leather back makes it more easier to hold and prevents fingerprints from building up. The handset’s slim, curved design makes it comfortable to grip.

Cameras

An IMX882 50MP primary camera with OIS capability is included with the Realme 12 Pro. Its 1/2-inch sensor has an f/1.8 aperture and a focal length of 26 mm. According to the manufacturer, this lens is perfect for taking wide-angle pictures in both bright and dim light. I found that the phone took some really good pictures in both bright and dim light. The phone did a good job of capturing details, and the color reproduction was accurate. Although I believe there was room for improvement in the edge recognition, the overall quality of the images was quite good.

Notably, Oscar winner for best cinematography Claudio Miranda hand-picked three unique movie filters for the phone. His work in well-known films served as an inspiration for these filters. These include “Life of Pi” for the Journey Filter, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” for the Memory Filter, and “Top Gun: Maverick” for the Maverick Filter.

According to Realme, the phone’s OIS functionality enhances videography output by offering stability. When I used the phone, I didn’t find that the movies were very steady because there was a lot of wobble when the films were taken by hand.

Performance and Software

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset, produced using a 4nm technology, is included with the Realme 12 Pro. With four powerful A78 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four effective A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz, this octa-core processor boasts eight cores. As you can see in the screenshot provided below, the phone achieved an AnTuTu benchmark score of 5,64,897 during our testing.

The Realme 12 Pro CPU throttled to 87 percent of its maximum speed in the test, which involves running 50 threads of the program on the phone for 30 minutes. This is an excellent result.

After talking about numbers, let’s move on to the topic of practical application. I used my phone to play a number of challenging games, and I never experienced any stuttering or app crashes. I had a fairly smooth gameplay experience, and the handset was really easy to use with support for a high refresh rate. Even after spending more than an hour playing taxing games on my phone, I didn’t experience any significant temperature problems.

Now for the software: the phone comes pre-installed with Realme UI 5.0, which is based on Android 14. In addition to certain useful functions, the phone has some pre-loaded apps. For instance, you may quickly separate and share subjects from your images with other apps using Smart image matting. Phonelink simplifies device connectivity with a single click by enabling seamless communication with Microsoft LTW (Link to Windows). Additionally, there is File Dock, which allows you to identify and extract material with just one click, including text, photos, and links. All things considered, the OS offers a few helpful tools that will boost your output.

Battery and charging speeds

Because of this, I found charging to be quite convenient, and the phone’s 5,000mAh battery easily allowed me to use it for 6-7 hours straight during a typical workday.

But remember that you will need to charge your phone before nightfall if you use it for gaming. The phone demonstrated an excellent 15 hours and 13 minutes of battery life in the PCMark test.

Final verdict

The telephoto lens on the 12 Pro allows you to take some amazing photos as well. The phone performs admirably in the majority of other categories, such as display, battery, and others, but it doesn’t provide anything particularly noteworthy. Its design, however, is what really sets it apart from the competition because it’s the most attractive phone in this price range. and that merits a deeper examination without a doubt.
