Motorola Edge 50 Pro

Continuing this trend, the company has included a new phone in the series in the form of Motorola Edge 50 Pro. 125W fast charging, 50W wireless charging, IP68 rating, 144Hz display frequency, and 3x headphone jack are some of the key features of the phone. The price of the phone starts at Rs 31,999 in India, making it competitive with the Vivo V30 and Redmi Note 13 Pro+, which are promising smartphones in this segment.

Verdict

Even with a few drawbacks, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is a product worth considering. The phone’s battery life and front camera are not the best. Nevertheless, the smartphone more than makes up for shortcomings with its sleek appearance, fluid display, outstanding camera configuration, and high-end features including support for wireless charging, lightning-fast wired charging, and sturdy construction.

Design and display

For anyone looking for a sleek and stylish design, Motorola Edge 50 Pro is the right choice. The phone consists of a curved screen and leather back, giving you a stylish look. Interestingly, the company has added a fragrance to the product that improves overall care. Although we do not yet know how long-lasting the scent will be, the scent will certainly make you feel good even during the most intense calls.

The smartphone also feels solid with its aluminum finish with a slightly matte finish, which ensures a good grip for the device. The lightness of the phone (186 grams) and its thickness of 8.19 mm makes it easy to use. Additionally, the Motorola Smartphone is IP68 certified against water and dust, making it suitable for outdoor use. The model, which has a rear camera consisting of three sensors and an LED flash, has a case that offers a perfect appearance despite its compact size. However, the metal mounts push the camera to the side, causing the device to wobble when placed flat.

For security, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro has an in-display fingerprint reader that can quickly unlock the device. Nevertheless, the scanner is not where the thumb would often rest when holding the smartphone, much like with some of the other options in the sector. It’s a little bit down the screen, so you have to use finger tricks to reach it.

Cameras

For photography, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro has a 50MP OIS primary camera with a wide f/1.4 aperture lens. This is supported by a 13 MP ultra-wide lens and a 10 MP 3x telephoto lens that can also take macro photos. The selfie camera on the phone is a 50MP camera with an AF feature. The cameras are certified by Pantone for their ability to grip skin. These are capable cameras that capture stunning, sharply detailed images in well-lit environments.

The dynamic range looks good too. But overall when it comes to color reproduction it seems to improve slightly as the level goes up. While the video is still interesting, this internal information is missing. Still, Motorola’s smartphone looks set to surpass its main rival, the Vivo V30, in both detail and quality.

However, when you change the 3x lens on the Motorola Edge 50 Pro phone, there is color shifting. Daylight lenses provide nearly true colors; However, details and sharpness seem weaker than basic and ultrawide phones. Images from the ultra-wide-angle lens also look good, although they’re a bit distorted at the edges of the frame. The lens supports autofocus for shooting macro images, which does a better job than the 2MP macro sensor. However, the telephoto lens seems to do a better job in terms of true color in close-ups than the macro.

In bright light, the wide-aperture main camera does a respectable job, with good range, well-defined shadows, and the most important things under control. Portrait mode on the phone provides a nice advantage. Additionally, the rear camera can record images with true skin tones and bokeh-like effects at different focal lengths: 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. Although the has a nice full face, the front camera sometimes goes overboard, causing colors to fade slightly.

Performance and software

The newest Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, which is also present in smartphones like the Vivo V30 and OnePlus Nord CE4, powers the Motorola Edge 50 Pro. The smartphone uses the chipset’s AI features—which include themes and wallpapers—for a variety of camera functions, including video stabilization and a photo enhancement engine. In practical terms, the device performs exceptionally well, displaying no jitters, freezes, or app crashes in normal use.

These features complement the already available Moto Secure, Family Space, and Moto Connect, which offers a DeX-like experience by mirroring the smartphone screen to an external display. All of these features are helpful and contribute to the phone’s increased overall functionality. Regarding software support, Motorola has committed to offering four years of security support for the Edge 50 Pro and three significant Android updates. This is comparable to rivals.

Recharging and battery

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro has a modest 4,500mAh battery, which is lower than its rivals. As a result, the phone scores under 12 hours and 30 minutes in PCMark’s battery test. But the phone seems good enough to last at least a day of normal use. Using a 30-minute 4K YouTube video at 50% brightness and size reduced the phone’s battery life by 4%. If you are a power user who plays games or uses a lot of navigation, your Motorola Edge 50 Pro may need to be charged at least once a day.

Don’t be discouraged though, the phone’s speed is incredibly good. With the 125 W charger, the phone’s battery capacity increases from 0 to 100 percent in half an hour. It is also worth noting that although the phone’s standard 8GB has a 125W charging capacity, it is slowly coming with 68W power consumption. The 125W power adapter is only available with the top-end 12 GB RAM. The phone also supports 50W wireless charging, a first in the segment, but the charger needs to be purchased separately.

Final verdict

At this point, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro appears to be the smartphone to beat in the sub-Rs 35,000 range. With features like a dependable telephoto camera and 50W wireless charging, which are usually reserved for smartphones that cost a little more, the phone makes a strong argument for itself. Overall, the device’s daily performance is still comparable to that of its rivals. The Motorola smartphone, however, outperforms its closest competitors, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ (review) and Vivo V30 (review), thanks to its eye-catching IP68-certified design, bright 144Hz refresh rate display, 125W fast charging rates, and clean software experience. All things considered, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is still a formidable competitor in the market thanks to its affordable price.
