Pippa, which features Ishaan Khatter, Mrunal Thakur, and Priyanshu Painyuli in the key roles, is now available on Prime Video. Mehta served as the basis for the film.

Story:

A biographical movie called Pippa is based on Captain Balram Singh Mehta’s life story. India was split into three sections in 1947. Pakistan was divided into West Pakistan and East Pakistan, which includes Bangladesh. East Pakistan was ruled by West Pakistan even though it had a larger population. In 1970, Pakistan held its first general election; however, General Yahya Khan, the country’s president at the time, rejected the results. When the protesters are killed by the Pakistani army, most East Pakistani citizens flee to India. The film focuses on how the Indian Army contributed to the liberation of East Pakistan.

Extra Credits:

We learn from the film how India contributed to Bangladesh’s (East Pakistan’s) independence from West Pakistan. It has been neatly illustrated what prompted East Pakistani citizens to launch a revolution, what issues they encountered during the uprising, and how refugees suffered at the hands of the Pakistan Army. The film showcases the exceptional qualities of the Indian government, prioritizing human welfare above all else.

Pippa’s handling of war scenes is flawless. They will have the audience on the edge of their seats because they were so masterfully conceived. Good graphics and well-done VFX go hand in hand.

Ishaan Khatter is an excellent choice for the role of Captain Balram Singh Mehta. His character has two facets: one as an irresponsible individual and the other as a determined commander. Ishaan nails them every time. Priyanshu Painyuli is fantastic, and the family drama is passable.

Points deducted:

The pacing slowed down in the final 40 minutes, and the filmmakers could have cut a few repetitive scenes to increase the impact.

Soni Razdan performs admirably, but her character is underutilized. Given the serious tone of the film, the song in the first hour was unnecessary.

Technical Aspects:

AR Rahman, the Oscar-winning composer, proves why he is the best in the business with Pippa. His background music was intriguing. The visuals are breathtaking, and cinematographer Priya Seth did an outstanding job. The camera angles during the war sequences were excellent and provided a solid viewing experience. The editing could have been better. The production values are excellent.

Raja Krishna Menon, the film’s director, did a good job. The setup is excellent, and the lengthy war sequence is flawless.

Verdict:

Overall, Pippa is a sincere attempt to shed light on the Indo-Pak War of 1971, specifically the Battle of Garibpur. A neat depiction of three siblings fighting bravely for their country has been provided. On the other hand, the pacing slows down in the final few minutes, and the climax lacks the desired impact. Nonetheless, Pippa is an enjoyable war drama.
