Story:

Renowned journalist Sagar (Naga Chaitanya) takes over as Chief Editor of the Samachar newspaper. Sagar is overjoyed to receive this elevation, but his joy is short-lived as a slew of misfortunes befall him. The fact that certain newspaper cuttings foretell these disasters in advance is even more shocking. How on earth is it even feasible? Does Sagar’s line of work have any adversaries? Was Sagar able to solve the puzzle of the newspaper clippings? This is the essence of Dhootha.

 Extra Credits:

The main premise of Dhootha isn’t particularly original; in fact, it’s reminiscent of Vikram Kumar’s previous movie, 13B. However, the storytelling strategy works quite well. Telling a well-known story in an engaging way is not easy, but Vikram K. Kumar delivers it with conviction. He immerses us in the narrative from the very first episode.

Exciting times are often presented to us. Vikram K. Kumar addresses society with a potent message that doesn’t come off as coercive at all. The show has a lot of characters and layers. Ultimately, every dot is precisely connected. Each character keeps advancing the plot.

With Dhootha, Naga Chaitanya makes a strong OTT debut. The Akkineni actor brings out the best in his dual-toned role. Naga Chaitanya gave the part his all as someone who worries for his family’s safety. In emotionally charged scenes, he also displayed good emotion. Parvathy Thiruvothu’s powerful performance dominates the show.

In their individual capacities, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Prachi Desai, Pasupathy, Ravindra Vijay, Tharun Bhascker, and others performed admirably. The episode that ends with all the twists coming together is a terrific one. The series’ continuous rainy backdrop improves the watching experience.

Negative Points:

The flashback sequences had no effect. This is when the series loses its power; the sequences in these flashback sections should have been done better.

Dhootha’s playtime may have been shortened for greater impact as well. in particular, the mid-episode tempo slowdown. There are a few profanity-filled terms throughout the series, which can offend some viewers.

Technical Aspects:

The creepy background score by Ishaan Chhabra is captivating. Top-notch cinematography is provided by Mikolaj Sygula. However, the editing could have been better.

Although the premise is straightforward, the director has added layers to tell the story in a compelling way.

Verdict:

Dhootha is an engaging mystery thriller with plenty of exciting moments overall. Though the plot isn’t particularly original, the storytelling mostly keeps the reader interested.
