A highlight of the film is Millie Bobby Brown’s captivating presence on screen. However, the storyline itself receives criticism for its shortcomings. Viewers who struggle with boredom might find it suitable to take a restroom break during the movie.

Review of the film Damsel: A Script Analysis
In the Netflix original movie Damsel, Ray Winstone plays Lord Bayford, who, in order to preserve their kingdom, fixes his daughter Elodie’s (Millie Bobby Brown) marriage to Prince Henry (Nick Robinson). Elodie accepts her father’s decision to take this audacious and dangerous step without hesitation. Within the first half hour, all of this takes place.
The Millie Bobby Brown film shifts from being a fantasy drama to a terrible survival thriller. The story doesn’t actually deal with anything. All we see in the trailer is merely expanded upon in this version. We are aware that no Prince will be able to save Elodie. Thus, there is a predictability element in the story that will lead to Elodie’s victory. It is a simple tale with nothing remarkable occurring.
Author Dan Mazeau sought to narrate the tale of a girl who is capable of standing up for herself. However, his fantasy play is rife with clichés. With the exception of Queen Isabelle, there is very little voice for women in the story, from the way the characters interact to the way the girls follow their elders’ instructions.
Review of the film Damsel: A Star Performance
With complete honesty, Millie Bobby Brown portrays Princess Elodie. Unfortunately, the narrative and her character are both shallow. She therefore never gets the chance to truly demonstrate her abilities. But the Stranger Things actress has once again shown that, following Enola Holmes, she can easily blend into any historical period. Robin Wright portrays the archetypal evil Queen who enjoys having power over her son. In this story, even a gifted actress like Angela Bassett is thrown off.
The remaining actors do a good job enacting their roles, but they don’t contribute much to the weak story.
Review of the film Damsel: Direction, Score
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the director, does a fantastic job of depicting what a conventional fantasy period drama would look like. As previously stated, the set designs, character cameos, and constructed kingdoms resemble those found in these kinds of fairy tale dramas. The Netflix movie, though, begs for a compelling tale. What fascinates you is not Elodie’s struggle for survival, nor the motivation behind the ridiculous ritual of the evil Prince family. They’ve included a talking dragon in their story, which just makes things worse.
I can’t deny that the fire-spitting dragon had terrible visual effects, but even so, it sounded creepy most of the time. The dragon never once appeared to pose a serious risk to Elodie’s life. It begs the question: How come the creature is so bad at discovering a little girl in his own home? Damsel only uses cliches towards the end, such as Elodie cutting off her long hair, dressing less, and ultimately deciding she won’t take advice from others!
Unfortunately, David Fleming’s music is unable to elevate this uninteresting narrative.

Overall, Netflix’s flimsy fantasy drama Damsel has Millie Bobby Brown imprisoned in the dragon’s home. Although her character may not require saving, the film unquestionably needed one. The film was ravenous for a compelling narrative, just as the dragon was hankering after royal blood.
