A novel viewpoint on the life of girls enrolled in school is provided by Amber Girls School. The show does a good job of depicting the everyday realities of these ladies, capturing moments that feel genuine, even when it occasionally exaggerates certain parts. The show, which is set in an all-girls school, highlights the pressures the girls experience to live up to expectations by examining their lives both within and outside of the school. “Amber Girls School,” which is narrated from the perspective of a gifted ninth-grader, is a compelling watch with enough content to keep viewers interested.
The series follows Ojasvini (Celesti Bairagey), a ninth-grade student at Amber School for Girls, who works as the school’s principal and aspires to be the next girl. While his mother supports the family financially, his unemployed father spends his time sleeping or watching television, causing his parents to argue frequently. Ojasvini’s older sister Tejasvini (Kajol Chugh), a college student, is part of a good family and is aware of their financial problems. She works part-time jobs to support herself. Ojasvini has close friends at school, including Tokhi (Ishika Gagneja) and Srishti (Samaira Jain), and her neighbor Ishtaar (Adrija Sinha) is her best friend outside school. Ojasvini struggles with academic and personal problems as she confronts the challenges of adolescence, including hormonal changes, the inclusion of boys in her life, and the impact of strict school rules.
Drama develops in the relationship between the girls, who are the heart of the series. This is especially true for those who attended monastic schools, which reminded them of strict rules, misleading teachers, and constant guidance from elders. The series is a perfect blend of thriller and regular ninth-grade resolution. It takes many forms, from insecure body images to the desire to attract revealingly dressed men. Approximately episodes run about 22 minutes, but sometimes the action is felt.
Celesti Bairagey gives a commendable performance as Ojasvini, embodying character and originality. It’s uncanny how much she resembles Alia Bhatt early in her career. Ishika Gagneja as Tokhi and Adrija Sinha as Ishtaar strongly support Celesti’s character and strengthen their relationship. The performances of many of the actors playing the school teacher are over-the-top. Kajol Chugh plays Ojasvini’s sister Tejasvini, who stoleshows with a determined and active character. The series focused heavily on the female leads, leaving little time for the male leads to make a significant impact.
“Amber Girls School” is a breath of new air, but it is not impervious to avoidable clichés. The series, which was set in Chandigarh in 2008, significantly increased its appeal by using Bollywood songs and cultural allusions from that era. Even with its reliance on well-worn clichés, it takes female viewers on a nostalgic, slightly skeptical trip back to their school days. This show is intriguing to watch since it successfully strikes a mix between familiarity and uniqueness.
