Famous for the royal palace homes, the artificial lake city was built by Maharana Udai Pratap II in the year 1559. The palace was named the Hawa Mahal, which means literally “Palace of the Winds,” because of the incredible ventilation it enjoys.
The principal aim of building this palace was to provide the ladies of the royal family and the court with a way to watch the bustling Johari Market streets from the several jharokhas inside the castle, without being recognized.
